First project - continued

The project is 90% done. All the recording has been done and the music content added.
All that is left now is the cover design, for this I have decided to utilise my photography skills and fitting in with the theme of North Wales I have chosen my favourite location - South Stack. I have chosen this because it is a little less known/obvious than the mountain areas of Snowdonia, tucked away on the rear end of Anglesey just along the coastline from Holyhead. It affords stunning views and wildlife and feel that it is the ideal location for the cover shot (shown below).

This photograph will form the basis of my cover design and the DVD is to be titled 'Memories of a Celtic land'

Beacon radio - 1 week in

Content has begun to come in for the first podcast,a number of promos have been recorded and edited and the intros have been created.However, a few issues have raised their heads.

Firstly we are not too sure on what (if any) broadcasting licenses we have at the college - this is a major issue and absolutely nothing we have created can be broadcast until we know the answer.

The content is arriving too slowly and some is incomplete i.e.. missing intro/outro links or content is too short.

This I believe has been rectified in the production meeting this morning.

I had the mammoth task of editing the Richard Cross interview over the weekend which was flooded with issues such as being too long, long periods of off topic conversation and the subject spent a great deal of time turning away from the microphones thus losing sound content and quality. However, thanks to a second bonus interview whilst on location I managed to get 40 minutes worth of audio down to an acceptable 14 minute split interview which I will insert a musical break into.

It has also come to my attention that a short interview technique workshop would be beneficial to all team members involved and I have asked the tutor for such.

Re.. the licensing, I have made the executive decision that we are going to concentrate on creating the content and let the college powers that be worry about the licensing. 

Beacon Radio - putting the spotlight on college life

As part of my chosen pathway I have been charged with setting up and running the official college podcast. I have initially agreed to submit one a month for the duation of my course as a starting point. The overall brief is to create a magazine style podcast, covering topics,issues and events relating to Blackburn college, its departments and it's students.

I am always up for a challenge and as such I have decided to create the first one ready for the first week back after half term, leaving me just two weeks.

After an initial production meeting a team was recruited to research,create and present the show which we envisage being two hours long. Content was discussed, the main focus this month being on UCAS applications and an interview with fine art tutor Richard Cross about a current exhibition at Blackburn Museum featuring staff and previous students of Blackburn College.

My next steps are to sort the computer system 'MYRIAD' out ready for playout, create the intros and promos and then I can begin recording the studio links
